Retrospective Council Approval

B. Waddell Consulting Engineers offer site inspections to anyone seeking retrospective council approval. We provide quick and easy building permits and approval for unauthorised building works completed in WA.

What is retrospective council approval?

Retrospective council approval (also referred to as retrospective building permit) is the permission required for structures that were built without gaining approval from the local council first. These unauthorised building works are often home additions or improvements made by the owner to increase the property’s value, such as patios, sheds, room extensions, retaining walls etc.

The council may send a letter requesting that the unauthorised structure be submitted to council for approval. Failure to provide retrospective building approval could result in the council ordering you to remove the unauthorised building works at your own expense. However, more times than not, a retrospective council approval is usually requested when an owner is trying to sell their property, as its then learnt that building approval certificates for the new structures are required before settlement can occur.
