Commercial Solar

B Waddell Consulting Engineers have certified over 16,000 solar panels or 4.6 MW worth of panels on commercial buildings throughout Western Australia

Inspection of the existing building in Parliament Square West Perth for the installation of 100kW of solar panels to the roof. Design check and certification of the building structure for the panel installation.

Design and documentation of a small ground mounted solar system to an off grid property located near Margret River WA.

Inspection of an existing building in Malaga WA for the installation of 45kW of solar panels to the roof. Design check and certification of the building structure for the panel installation. A roof loading plan was also developed enabling the panel installer to lift the solar panel crates onto the roof prior to installation.

What we offer

B Waddell Consulting Engineers have certified over 16,000 solar panels or 4.6 MW worth of panels on commercial buildings throughout Western Australia since 2013.
Solar panels allow a building to be more self-sustaining in generating the required electricity to offset running costs. On average, a simple commercial building such as a shop or a factory will install anywhere from 10 kW to 100 kW worth of solar panels on the roof which greatly contributes to the amount of electricity required to power the business during peak hours. The trend over the last 15 years has seen the average system increase substantially in size, 10 to 30kW systems were common 15 years ago where the average system that we now see installed is 100kW or larger.

Solar panels apply additional load due to both their own weight, as well as the additional uplift that is caused due to the wind interacting with the panels. The additional wind load is substantially higher when the panels are tilted rather than installed flush with the roof.

Our certification includes an inspection of the existing building to determine if the roof structure is capable to support the additional weight of the panels. Should the roof be unable to support the panels as is, we will gladly recommend a reinforcing solution to allow the panels to be installed safely to comply with Australian Standards.

We can also include a loading diagram of the building to allow a safe and risk-free stacking of panels on the roof. The loading diagram takes into account crane location and access around the building. In order for the loading diagram to be completed, structural drawings of the building are required to give us an accurate understanding of the structural supports of the building.

The project also included the check and certification of the existing buildings for the installation of 100kW made up of three hundred and twelve panels installed to the northern sloping roof tops.
